Vacuum Tips
| Does your vacuum exhaust a lot of dust? |
The exhaust air can be even dirtier than the air being sucked in. Simply remember to change any filters your vacuum has on a regular basis. Bagless vacuums will burn out the motor if the filters aren’t changed. |
| Why change your vacuum belt at least every 6 months? |
Do you have to go over the same spot over and over again to pick up the dirt? If you notice that the brush roller spins in the air, but as soon as you put it on the carpet it slows down, it’s a sign that it’s time to change the belt. As dirt, dust and hair buildup in the bearings, the drive belt becomes stretched causing the brush roll to turn slowly. |
| How often should I change a disposable bag? |
There’s a reason that they’re called ‘disposable’. As the pores of the bag become clogged, air will not pass through freely, causing the motor to work harder with the possibility of overheating. It depends on what is being picked up as to how long a vacuum bag will last before the pores get clogged. If you’re picking up regular household dust, likely you can fill a bag until it’s about ¾ full, but if you’re picking up a fine powder like drywall dust, the bag will only hold about ¼ of its capacity. Never reuse a paper bag. Make sure that you have an adequate supply of bags on hand. The life of your vacuum depends on it! |
| Does my central vacuum need to get overhauled? |
If your central vacuum unit has the same suction as when you bought it, it does not need to get overhauled. Watch out for scams that scare you into servicing a unit that is working perfectly fine, for an outrageous cost. On the other hand, if you experience reduced suction, there could be a problem. Is there one of the outlet valves on the wall broken? Is the 30’ hose clogged? Or did something large get into the system? |
